Fizz and Buzz at the Annual ICT Register Showcase
Tuesday 27th January was the Annual ICT Register Showcase event at the wonderful venue of Holywell Park at Loughborough University.
Lightbox Education ( formerly known as Softease) were sponsoring the event again this year and there was a real Buzz! I was there to support one of the schools presenting at the the second set of Showcases, just before lunch.
The title of the seminar was ‘Fizz or Buzz? Web 2.0 technology with Honeycomb’. Barbara Heath from Gorsemoor Primary School in Staffordshire started the session explaining why she wanted the children to get involved in web 2:0 technologies, the creation, communication and collaboration being at the heart of Web 2.0. She discussed e-safety and copyright and access that the children have at home. It was all backed up with statistics and surveys to explain the reasons and the journey that led to the current projects using Honeycomb.
The presentation culminated in a showcase of the work the children and staff had undertaken using the collaborative nature and engaging applications that Honeycomb provides. Barbara’s passion to provide the right tools for children is what I remember most. She even came armed with an ethernet cable, to ensure live access, certainly a wise decision as the wifi access had been slow all morning.
She wanted the live published pages to not only extol the virtues of anytime, place or where, but to ensure that any new comments that might have been shared by pupils could be seen right up-to-date. This included accessing Izzy’s pages from Canada. She left the school in the summer but still communicates with her friends back in ‘Old Blighty’.
If you would like to see and hear more its all here for you.
A Podcast using Podium was recorded of the session and can be downloaded and listened to here. The presentation can be viewed here.
On Doug Dickinson’s Blog there are more details about the ICT Register showcase itself and can be linked to from here.
If you would like to share your use and experience of Honeycomb we would be delighted to write about it. Please do get in contact.
